 te of Iranian Studies presents Women and Electoral Campaigns in Iran with 
 Dr. Mahmoud Pargoo, Alfred Deakin Institute and Dr. Zahra Tizro, Univers
 ity of East London.Iran’s eighth president after the Revolution will be el
 ected on 18 June 2021. Debates about gender and women’s rights have been a
 mong the heated topics in most electoral campaigns in the last few decades
 . Further, Iranian women’s rights activists have been among the most vibr
 ant and vocal in the Middle East. Yet, Iran is consistently rated low in 
 international rankings on gender equality, women’s participation in the w
 orkforce and some other related indexes. How has the discourse on women ev
 olved in electoral campaigns once the last four decades? And do elections 
 contribute to improvements women’s rights in Iran?Dr. Mahmoud Pargoo is a 
 research fellow at Alfred Deakin Institute (ADI), Deakin University and t
 he lead author of Presidential Elections in Iran: Islamic Idealism since t
 he Revolution (Cambridge University Press, 2021) and the author of Secula
 rization of Islam in Post-revolutionary Iran (Routledge, 2021). He has a 
 PhD in Social and Political Thought from Institute for Social Justice, Au
 stralian Catholic University. Mahmoud writes in English, Persian, and Ar
 abic and his anaylses have appeared in BBC, ABC, Al-Monitor, The Diplom
 at, Asia Times, and Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.Dr. Zahra Tizro is a Senior Lectu
 rer at the University of East London. Her research examines the intersecti
 on between gender, violence and sexuality in cross-cultural contexts and 
 on national and international relations. She is the author of Domestic Vio
 lence in Iran: Women, Marriage and Islam, and the co-author of The Polit
 ical Economy of Iran Development, Revolution and Political Violence.Regis
