Description

Manuscripts and Miracles: The Meherjirana Story

The Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies in collaboration with the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America, the Ontario Zoroastrian Community Foundation, the Zoroastrian Society of Ontario, and the Encyclopaedia Iranica Foundation jointly present Zoroastrian Studies Seminar series on Friday, November 7 2025, 1 p.m. (Eastern Time: Canada & US).

This lecture concerns a very early diaspora-that of the Parsis in India and how in particular the First Dastur Meherjirana presented Zoroastrianism at the Mughal Court of Emperor Akbar. Interesting details have been recorded by his descendant during field trips in Navsari. This was the first introduction of the Zoroastrians to the arger Indian nation and makes for a good story. It links in with Akbar's creationof a syncretic religion, the Din-e Ilahi, and aa time of global strife today gives a strong counter narrative.
