Description
Some Considerations on the Iqṭāʿ in North Africa between the 12th and 14th Centuries
Amar S. Baadj, a candidate for the Assistant Professor Islamic History position
The iqṭāʿ system of land tenure was one of the most important institutions of the pre-modern Islamic world.
This presentation will begin with a look at the general debate about the iqṭāʿ in modern scholarship followed by an examination of the characteristics of the late medieval Maghribī iqṭāʿ and a comparison of the latter with the Syro-Egyptian version of this institution.
