Biography

Mohammad Raza Haider is a PhD Student in Assyriology studying the history of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, primarily focusing on Babylonia and the Babylonian language in the Persian period (539-330 BC). Using the Babylonian dialect of Achaemenid royal inscriptions as his primary source, his dissertation will seek to address the 'Mesopotamian' character of the language, the dynamics of its contact with Old Persian, Elamite and Aramaic, and the implications of its use in Achaemenid imperial ideology.
