September 5, 2023 by Our Department News

The Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations is pleased to welcome Dr. Oren Siegel, who is appointed as Assistant Professor of Egyptian Archaeology in the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations.

He is a postdoctoral researcher for the Borderscape Project, which investigates the changing socio-spatial landscape of the Nile’s first cataract region during the centuries before and after the foundation of the 1st Dynasty of Egypt, at the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures at the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw.

Dr. Siegel received his PhD in Egyptian Archaeology from the University of Chicago in June 2020, and his research focuses primarily on borders and boundary-making, landscape archaeology, and interrelationships between the built environment and political power.

We look forward to Oren joining the NMC community in September 2023, contributing to the Department’s growing course offerings in Egyptian Archaeology.
