The Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations is saddened to report that Professor Roger Savory, a long-time member of the NMC community, and a dearly beloved colleague and friend to many, passed away on February 17, 2022. Professor Savory had a profound influence, both as a scholar and teacher of Iranian History, and in helping to establish the study of Middle Eastern and Iranian Studies at the University of Toronto. Professor Savory will be remembered for his warm collegiality, kindness, and generosity. May he rest in peace and his memory be a blessing.
